INSPIRATION
For this design, I decided to think outside of the traditional padded chair form. The cushions were hand sewn and upholstered to resemble the pages of a book. The overall concept is that for optimal support, you flip the “pages” up or down to create more padding on the back or front of the chair.
EARLY IDEATION
MATERIALISM
For the cushioning, I wanted to find fabric that felt lush yet cozy and decided on a felted wool. To get the desired cushion shape, I recycled a thrifted comforter. Pine was used for the wood component, paired with a dark walnut stain.
WOODWORKING
To construct the chair, I began with the foot area of the base to get a feel of how it would fit and assemble. I then progressed towards the back of the chair.
UPHOLSTERY
To match the dark, dusty brown of the chair, I chose a burnt green-brown wool from an army supply store.
